At Hatfield Dental Care, we offer fillings as part of our range of general dentistry treatments.

What is a filling?

We use fillings to fill a cavity or hole in your teeth. They can also be used to repair any teeth damaged by injury (e.g. a chipped tooth).

What is a cavity?

Cavities are caused by tooth decay which is caused by dental plaque turning sugars into acids.

Why might I need a filling?

You may be suffering from tooth decay, acid erosion, a chipped tooth or abrasion from grinding your teeth.

How will I know if I need a filling?

We will be able to tell if you need a filling from regular check-ups here at Hatfield Dental Care. However, you might notice increased sensitivity, pain when you bite down or toothache. You might even notice food and debris getting caught in the cavity.

What are fillings made of?

Most fillings are either composite or amalgam. Amalgam fillings are the more traditional type made of a combination of metals – usually copper, tin, and silver. These are very hardwearing and can last up to 40 years with good care.

Composite fillings look much more like natural teeth and are made of a composite of plastic resins. They can last for between three to ten years.

How is a filling administered?

We may numb the area being treated with a numbing agent before removing any decayed or weakened parts of the tooth.

We will then shape, clean and dry the tooth to prepare it for the filling. Then, we will fill the cavity with either a composite or amalgam filling.

I have recently been for my one year review on my dental implants that I had done at Hatfield dental care, I had two front dental implants, after shopping around I trusted this dental surgery & felt Asfar did not try to force other treatments on me that I did not need like other dentists did, I am so happy with them they look and feel like my real teeth and thats all I ever wanted after my accident causing loss of my front teeth, my implant surgery was no quick fix it started from my bone grafting to the final crown over many months all pain free and any questions or worries was dealt with asap which I appreciate, best money I have ever spent!
