Here at Hatfield Dental Care, we can provide you with a dental bridge as part of our general dentistry treatments.

What is a bridge?

Put simply, a dental bridge bridges a gap in your mouth. Bridges are normally needed as a result of a missing tooth, in which case a false tooth will be bonded to the natural teeth that remain on either side of the new false tooth.

How will my bridge be fitted?

First, we will take an impression of your mouth using a plaster mould. We’ll also determine which shade your bridge should be so that it matches your natural teeth as closely as possible.

The bridge will then be custom made for you by a lab technician, during which time we will fit you with a temporary bridge.

When the permanent bridge is ready, you will return to the practice. At this point, we will administer a local anaesthetic so that any pain is blocked, but you can remain awake throughout the treatment.

What happens after I’ve had a bridge fitted?

We will provide you with all the aftercare information you need. You may well experience some soreness in the gums after getting your bridge fitted and could have some increased sensitivity to hot and cold for a while. This should recede in the days following the treatment.

Because bridges are permanently fixed in place, you should clean them twice a day as you would your natural teeth. You will also need to clean the gap underneath the bridge with a special dental floss.
